Now preparing for a blog site! It will be up online very soon... (24 June 2004)
I've been writing columns about New Zealand for years for a Japanese magazine, but I've never thought of writing somthing in English for English speaking readers. Well, because I didn't want to make my funny Japanese-English public and I think I just had fears for humiliating myself. One day, one of my friends made me think it is OK to write in English even I'm a Japanese and my English is not perfect or not good enough for the public. I just need to write following my heart.
So I've decided to write my column: In Between - My life as a Japa-Fiji-Kiwi!
I am a Japanese, but am I really? I'm not a Kiwi, but am I not at all?
I only spent two years in Fiji, but I still feel something 'Fiji' somewhere deep in my heart.
Well, maybe I'm just me. I am what I am.
According to my parents, I am a 100% pure Japanese, but I don't feel that way. After spending 2 years in Fiji and 7 years in New Zealand, I feel I am somewhere 'In Between'.
I cannot be a Kiwi and I cannot be a Fijian, but I'm not a Japanese, who I used to be. Mixed cultures, mixed languages and mixed feelings. I am nowhere, but In Between.
Physically I am still a Japanese, but maybe I created a new mixed race emotionally and became a Japa-Fiji-Kiwi!
My column is all about my life as a Japa-Fiji-Kiwi. My feelings and how I see Japan, New Zeealand and the world through my Japa-Fiji-Kiwi eyes.
I hope you will enjoy sharing my stories. 30 January, 2003
